There will be a creche at the conference. Please email tyler@leftunity.org by 2pm on Monday November 10.

Access:
There is a lift at the front of the venue but the door to it is locked. There will be a specific steward at the front who will call the porter when people who need the lift arrive. It would help us to have an idea how many people will need to use the lift so please let us know if this is likely to be the case for you.

Seating will be reserved at the front and sides for disabled people.

There will be a roving microphone.

Stewards will be on hand to assist anyone who needs someone to fetch them a cup of tea, for example. Stewards will assist those who can’t hold their own voting cards. If you think you may need this assistance please let us know in advance if possible.

There is an induction loop which covers the whole room. People will be asked not to shout into the microphones.

There will be a Powerpoint on a large screen to help people follow where we are in the agenda at any point.

Conference will generally be run in slots of not more than 90 minutes and one of 105.

Please let us know if you need
1) documents in large print
2) documents on a memory stick
3) wheelchair space at the front
4) seating at the front
5) a chair with arms, or anything else like this.

  1. John Penney says:

I can see the solid logic behind a two day conference – previous one day conferences were rather rushed and the debates therefore a bit curtailed in some important instances.

There are major logistical issues of overnight accommodation around a two day conference however – for all us many LU members travelling long distances from the regions far beyond the London conurbation . Will there be a centralised co-ordinated effort to provide accommodation for us “out of towners” with LU members living within tube distance of the Conference venue (ie, at least a comfy sofa to bed down on overnight ) ?

  2. Neil Williams says:

Venue ASAP so that people can start to planning accommodation – also agree with Johns comment.

The venue is now confirmed – London Irish Centre, 50-52 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB.

Please see the updated post above for more details.

  3. Now, it really isn’t much, but I’m in halls of residence in Islington – if anyone is *REALLY* desperate they can bunk up with me

  4. Julie Morrow says:

I can only manage to come to one day. Will there be a programme ? I would prefer to attend on the day that education policy is discussed.

    • tomwalker says:

Hi Julie – The standing orders committee is currently working on the agenda. We will put it online as soon as possible.

  5. Pip says:

What’s happened to the Social Security and International policy commissions? It’s the last chance to discuss amendments in our branch next week and there is still nothing to amend!

Also two of us asked to join the Social Security policy email group ages ago and have still not been added…

  6. Neil Williams says:

Seems to be some way from a tube station – this will cause delay for those of us travelling some way. Kentish Town seems the closest tube closest but thats still a long long walk.
Anyone know what bus number to catch from Euston or Kings Cross and where to find the bus stop(opposite the station on the other side of the road perhaps????)as many coming from the North outside of London will arrive at these stations. Can we have some clear bus route details please.

  7. OK according to Transport for London this is the best and fastest way to get from Euston Station to the London Irish Centre, 50-52 Camden Square. Its takes about 20mins in total.

    1. Tube from Euston on the Northern Line to Camden Town – 2mins.

    2. Walk form Camden Town Tube to NW1 9XB (Camden Square)18mins.
According to the Google map you come out of Camden Town Tube and walk up Camden Road (A503) till you get to Murray Street (The London Irish Centre is the third turning on the left of this street) – 18mins from Camden Town Tube.

    Easy now!

Don’t forget to but a combined rail card and tube card from your home town and leave time for this journey (you can buy the ticket in advance as ticket offices can be very busy on Saturday).
