Venezuela’s socialist victory

venezuela-solidarityIn Venezuela’s municipal elections on 10th December, the ruling socialist PSUV and its allies won 308 of the 335 municipalities contested. The European Left Party issued the following statement:

“The Working Group for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Party of the European Left (EL) congratulates the incontestable victory of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in the 2017 municipal elections.

This new electoral victory confirms once again the sovereign will of the Venezuelan people, who do not allow themselves to be intimidated by the imperialist interference of countries such as the United States or commercial associations such as the European Union.

We salute this victory of the PSUV, not only because it is what has been decided in a free election, but also because it is the deserved triumph of a people that day after day has to suffer to defend the Bolivarian Revolution. A revolution whose roots are of freedom and self-determination of people beyond the Venezuelan borders.”
