Left Unity stands in solidarity with the LGBT community and rejects all attempts to use this terrible massacre to increase Islamophobia. Principal Speaker Joseph Healy said:
“As Principal Speaker of Left Unity and as a gay man I condemn and deplore the mass murder of LGBT people in Orlando. This is the worst incident of the mass murder of LGBT people since the Holocaust and must be condemned by all progressive and humanist people. But we must be careful that in condemning homophobia we do not give ground to those who wish to use this horrible massacre to stoke the fires of Islamophobia, as was said by LGBT speakers at a mass rally in San Francisco yesterday. There are those who wish to divide the LGBT and Muslim communities. We must stand firm in the face of hatred and face our common enemies – homophobia and Islamophobia.”
Left Unity is active in movements and campaigns across the left, working to create an alternative to the main political parties.
