Statements

Katie Buse (Bristol LU)
Nominated by Barbara Segal (Bristol LU), Nick Foster

I have been active in radical politics for most of my life and feel I have the experience to make a useful contribution to Left Unity. I recognise the wide range of people getting involved with the party which is both exciting and a challenge for us to keep working in a positive way. Before I joined Left Unity I was a member of the Green Party and Green Left, and was a reasonably successful local election candidate gaining over 1000 votes with just under 30% of the vote. I consider myself to be an Ecosocialist, I have worked on various committees over the years at local, regional and national levels.

Phil Jenkins (Exeter LU)
Nominated by Exeter LU

I went to LU’s national conference because I don’t think the main parties any longer represent the majority of UK citizens.

I don’t reject out of hand all things capitalist. Our party is a broad church, the clue is in the name: ‘left’ and ‘unity’.

I support nationalisation of essential services and the transport infrastructure; the complete public ownership of the NHS; a supportive welfare system; social housing; inclusion of all citizens regardless of background and the reduction of all ‘isms’ (sadly LU doesn’t seem to have a specific statement on disability). I see these ‘isms’ as an extension of the demonization of the working class.

I want a world of democracy and not plutocracy; a world where the citizen is more important than the global corporation or financial sector; I want a world with a fairer distribution of wealth and resources; I want a world where climate change is taken seriously and the UK takes measures to reduce its carbon footprint; I want a world where constant war isn’t a tool of the corporation. I see LU as a party to fit with that and I want to represent you at national level.

Left Unity is active in movements and campaigns across the left, working to create an alternative to the main political parties.

Just Stop Oil – Slow Marches

Slow marches are still legal (so LOW RISK of arrest), and are extremely effective. The plan is to keep up the pressure on this ecocidal government to stop all new fossil fuel licences.
