Responding to Labour’s announcement on tuition fees, Salman Shaheen of Left Unity said:
“It’s sad that the best Labour will promise is to cut university tuition fees to £6,000 a year.
“When Labour was elected in 1997 there were no tuition fees. It was Labour who brought in the first fees of £1,000 then £3,000.
“So Ed Miliband is promising that fees will be double what they were under Blair. Hardly inspiring.
“Left Unity says that education, all the way from nursery to university, should be free.
“Students are not a burden to society, they are our future. A full education should be a right for all.”
