In the presidential elections in Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, candidate of the left Morena party prevailed and will be the next president of Mexico, says the European Left Party.
“This election is historic and represents a change for Mexico, as it has never received so many votes before for a presidential candidate. The will to reform and democratization can not be greater than in the election campaign of prevailing violence against politicians. In the last few years alone, more than 120 politicians have been murdered in Mexico.”
President of the European Left, Gregor Gysi, says: “I congratulate André Manuel López Obrador on his election as President of Mexico, and I wish him much strength and assertiveness for the country’s redevelopment, for more democracy and justice.”
Left Unity is active in movements and campaigns across the left, working to create an alternative to the main political parties.

This is excellent news for Mexico – and look forward to see this left-wing government deliver policies to benefit the poor and begin cleaning up corruption.
And my goodness – we on the Left needed a victory after Syriza.
