Left wing political party Left Unity is supporting a London rally at the US Embassy in solidarity with the family of murdered teenager Michael Brown and protesters in the US town of Ferguson.
The rally is on Wednesday 27 August at 5.30pm outside the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square, W1A 2LQ.
Bianca Todd from Left Unity said:
“The response to demonstrations in Ferguson over the police shooting of Michael Brown reminds us of the UK riots that followed the police killing of Mark Duggan in 2011.
“In both cases the response of the police and the establishment was to blame the unrest on an outbreak of criminality – but in the US and the UK, it is police violence and racism that is the real culprit.
“We are concerned that giving the police more weapons, including the plans to bring water cannon to London, will only lead to more deaths.
“Racism should have no place in society and no place in the police. We are supporting this rally to demand an end to racist police killings across the world.”

Absolutely! Working people and oppressed groups in America need a US Labor!
Peace and Justice!
So good to see this. This horror has been played down by the media here (but thank goodness for social media) we, as a party, absolutely should have a presence at this demo.
I understand that there is a bail fund that we can all contribute to to help members of the black community arrested during the protests. Perhaps we could also look at how to support that – through our branches or centrally???
