Scunthorpe Scaffolders and Just Eat (Sheffield) Strikes need your Support!

Nick Jones writes: Speakers from the Scunthorpe Scaffolders and Just Eat (Sheffield) strikes spoke at a Left Unity meeting on Monday 28 February. We are very grateful to have heard from them and would like to publicise their campaigns.

Just Eat Strike

Food delivery drivers working for Stuart in Sheffield are currently on their second week of strike against pay cuts, in what is now the longest continuous gig economy strike in UK history!

The strike is now spreading to Chesterfield, Huddersfield, Blackpool, Sunderland and beyond. We need strike funds to sustain this historic action and bring home a win for all the drivers.

Drivers must already cover all our own costs, we are not paid for the times we’re waiting for orders, and we have seen our pay slowly decline over time. Going on strike is a big sacrifice for us, so you’re support is crucial.

Scunthorpe Scaffolders

The dispute, which began in 2019, is a result of the scaffolders not being paid in line with the National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry (NAECI). The 62 workers have been on continuous strike action since Monday 4 October 2021. The rates for the workforce are currently 10-15 per cent (depending on specific roles) below these rates. The workers maintain 500 scaffolding structures at the British Steel site.
