Responding to the budget, Salman Shaheen of Left Unity said:
“Raising inheritance tax thresholds while capping benefits is robbing Pete to pay Rupert Giles Bullingdon III.
“Osborne calls it a ‘low tax, low welfare society’ – but it’s the rich who get the low tax and the poor who get the low welfare. The inheritance tax cut will only help the very richest.
“The real lesson of Greece is that austerity brings nothing but misery and recession. Stretching it out over a slightly longer period is hardly an act of mercy from the cruelest chancellor in generations.”
