Response to Greek referendum announcement
Salman Shaheen of Left Unity said:
“We welcome Syriza’s decision to call a referendum on these proposals. Like Alexis Tsipras, we have been appalled by the despicable blackmail Greece has faced.
“The people of Greece voted against austerity but Europe’s leaders have been trying to destroy the democratically elected Syriza government.
“Now Greece is re-asserting its democratic rights.
“As the sister party of Syriza in Britain we are ready to act 100% in support of the people of Greece, raising solidarity on the streets here.”
