New left wing party Left Unity has condemned government plans to allow fracking for shale gas under people’s homes – and called instead for a total ban on fracking.
Bianca Todd of Left Unity said:
“This Queen’s Speech will be remembered as the day the government decided to sacrifice our homes on the altar of fracking.
“Fracking has not been proved safe, it wrecks the landscape and it is definitely not necessary. We call for a total ban on fracking and investment in renewable energy instead.
“If the government forces this through, there will be a new wave of local movements against fracking. We will be there supporting them every step of the way.”
