No nuclear war
The terrible threat of nuclear war has suddenly become a reality in East Asia with the threat and counter-threat between North Korea and the US, says Left Unity principal speaker Joseph Healy.
For Donald Trump this is an opportunity to strut his stuff and talk about fire and fury. Playing to his home base of Make America Great Again fans, his threats promise to plunge the region into a nuclear hell. The more North Korea ups the ante the more the US responds. China had already offered to help freeze the nuclear arsenal in North Korea but this was rejected by the US. More than ever this shows the dangers of nuclear escalation and the need for nuclear disarmament. All progressive and peace loving peoples must protest and prevent Trump from creating a nuclear disaster in the Korean peninsula with incalculable results for the world and the peoples of Korea, North and South. Left Unity calls for urgent peace talks to begin as soon as possible.

Yes, and it isn’t only Trump who wants to threaten nuclear war against Korea, China, or Russia. The ‘Democratic Party’ and the neocons and the US “intelligence services” (who are trying to get Trump impeached for having been insufficiently aggressive towards Russia, which is probably why Trump is acting tough against North Korea) want to escalate the threat of nuclear war more than Trump does. If they succeed in toppling Trump and replacing him with a neocon Republican or a neocon ‘Democrat’, we will be even more likely to have a nuclear war.
That is why protest should be aimed at changing the entire warmongering capitalist system, not just changing one reactionary president for another one.
