Left wing political party Left Unity has elected a new principal speaker, Micheline Mason.
Micheline is a writer, activist and campaigner. Politicised through the women’s movement, she is best known for her work campaigning for inclusive education for disabled people.
Micheline Mason said:
“Together, people built a system in Britain to try to share our wealth, to make sure everyone has enough of the basic things we need as human beings. Now all these achievements are being dismantled as resources are instead funnelled into the over-stuffed bank accounts of the wealthy.
“People I know have died because of the cruelty of the austerity programme. But we know it doesn’t have to be this way.
“As one of the principal speakers of Left Unity I hope to give voice to the people who desperately need an alternative: an economy organised around the needs of the many rather than the greed of a few.”
Micheline was elected by an online ballot of the party’s members. She joins current principal speakers Salman Shaheen, Felicity Dowling and Pete Green.
Micheline is available for interview.
