The recent shocking revelations about BHS and Sports Direct demonstrate without a doubt that corruption and bullying are part and parcel of the business culture and the experience of going to work in Britain today. Left Unity calls on the TUC urgently to step up its campaign for the unionisation of agency staff and all those on zero hours contracts and to call a public protest against these deplorable practices.
Left Unity Principal Speaker Felicity Dowling said:
“BHS shows wide-boys grabbing big profits from the destruction of a company while pensioners and workers go short because their savings have gone into the bosses’ back pockets.
“Well done to Unite the Union for revealing the Sports Direct crisis. Now all unions must take up the struggle. No one at work must feel alone. Together we are strong. We need a powerful campaign to unionise workforces from agencies and all on zero hours contracts.
“We also say no to sexist working conditions. Enforcing high heels in the office is just the tip of an iceberg of sexist working conditions.
“We say target the robber baron bosses to protect pensions. They must not be allowed to rob life time savings from ordinary workers or make our working lives a daily hell.”
Left Unity is active in movements and campaigns across the left, working to create an alternative to the main political parties.

Could not agree more about the despicable, abhorrent things revealed over Sports Direct and
BHS. Britain has been, since Thatcher, a Victorian sweatshop, with Unions reviled. This has got to change. Now. Workers have to unite in this. Dreams do not become reality by themselves.
