Belarusian left-wing political parties and trade union organizations express strong protest in connection with the 15-day arrest of Igor Borisov, chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada). Politically motivated sentences, false testimony of contradicting witnesses, the practice of arbitrary detention of people right on the streets, without charge, total purges of those who disagree – are returning from the dusty pages of history textbooks to real life.
The arrest of Igor Borisov once again confirms that not only the Constitution has ceased to operate in Belarus, but also the rule of law in general, that human rights violations for the Belarusian repressive apparatus have become the norm, and that Belarusian police officers, prosecutors and judges are clearly not up to the laws.
Igor Borisov, in his struggle for democracy and social justice, now shares the fate of his historical predecessors from the Belarusian Socialist Hramada and the Belarusian Peasant-Workers Hramada, who were arrested by the tsarist autocracy and the Polish reactionary sanitation regime in Poland , as well as tens of thousands of Belarusians who were repressed by the current Belarusian regime.
We demand the immediate release of Igor Borisov and all other political prisoners arrested and convicted under administrative or criminal charges.
We demand an immediate end to the politically motivated persecution of activists of political parties, trade unions, non-governmental and non-profit civil organizations, initiatives, as well as representatives of the media, courtyard chats and all citizens.
