The European Left Party backs Le Nouveau Front Populaire and urges unity and solidarity to defeat the far right:
The high percentage of votes for the radical right in the first round of the French National Assembly elections is a wake-up call for all democratic and progressive forces in Europe. However, the strong result of the New Popular Front proves that the radical right’s grip on power can be stopped. All our solidarity for the New Popular Front and its candidates in the second and decisive round of the election.
At the weekend, Viktor Orbán, Andrej Babis and Herbert Kickl announced in Vienna the formation of a new radical right-wing parliamentary group in the European Parliament. They want power not just in individual European states, but in Europe as a whole. This danger is real. We appeal to all democratic and progressive forces to stand united against the attack on democracy and freedom. This is not the time for petty squabbles, but for unity and solidarity.
