Ecuador’s Lenin Moreno victorious in Presidential Election
Left Unity congratulates the people of Ecuador and President Lenín Moreno on their electoral victory. With a participation rate of over 80%, the people of Ecuador have confounded those who have insisted that Latin America is destined to be governed again by the forces of the right. Ecuador has refused to become again a land of inequalities, of impunity for the multinationals, with the population increasingly poor and deprived of rights.
This election now opens the way to deepening the social transformation, the redistribution of income and wealth, and the eradication of corruption. This is a new opportunity to universalize decent working and living conditions, to promote participation, create popular power and overcome inequalities. Alongside our sister parties in the European Left Party, we will continue to support progressive forces in Ecuador and in the São Paulo Forum, in our shared belief that another world is possible. We will work to build solidarity and mutual support between the peoples of Europe and Latin America.
