Responding to the Tories’ proposal to lower the benefit cap, Left Unity’s Felicity Dowling said:
“Cameron’s proposal to lower the benefit cap is another blow to children in this country.
“Two and a half times the number of children are affected by this compared to the number of adults. It is an anti-child policy.
“There are 3.5 million children living in poverty in the UK today. That’s more than one in four – and in some areas it’s up to 70%. This is in one of the richest countries in the world.
“The benefit cap must be scrapped and it is a disgrace that the Labour Party supports it.”
