Left Unity calls on Government to put PPE before ideology

“The fact that the UK has missed three opportunities to take part in an EU scheme to provide Personal Protective Equipment is beyond belief. At a time when NHS and social care staff are literally dying for want of this equipment and those working on the front line are calling out for it, it is not the time to indulge in xenophobic posturing.

“The EU scheme means that those countries who participated will be receiving supplies within days or two weeks at the latest, whereas the UK government continues to put out the pathetic statement that it is looking for supplies on the world market but that stocks are difficult to find.

“Once again this displays that for this government driven by narrow Brexit ideology, the health of its citizens comes second to ideological purity. This will be among the many charges which will be brought against this criminally irresponsible government once this crisis has passed.”
