Name: Vera Arthur
Standing for Disputes Committee:
Nominated by Len Arthur
Statement: I know this can be a difficult task but as a rank and file member of Left Unity since the beginning and not being involved in any leadership role, I hope this provides me with a reasonably independent starting position. For me socialism is about treating people fairly and openly and I hope I can bring this view to bear on any issues before us.
Name: Jim Hollinshead
Standing for Disputes Committee:
Nominated by: Helen Collins, Liverpool Left Unity
Statement: I am a founder member of Left Unity, a co-chair of the Liverpool branch, and branch chair of UCU at Liverpool John Moores University. I am committed to building a democratic, participatory, functional campaigning party, which is socialist, feminist, and environmentalist. have been a Marxist and an active Socialist since my teens and have been an active Trade Unionist and Shop Steward/Rep for almost as long. Throughout that time I have been involved in representation/advocacy both between members and management and within the internal structure of various unions; I have experience and insight into the tasks and responsibilities of a member of the Disputes Committee (yet somehow I am still prepared to accept nomination…).
Participation in the Disputes Committee is an unglamorous and largely thankless task, yet it is essential for the fair, open, comradely and democratic functioning of Left Unity. Please support my nomination.
Name: Francis Fish
Standing for Disputes Committee:
Nominated by Felicity Dowling
Statement: I have extensive experience in industry working with complex contractual issues. I feel strongly that this committee needs to have enough people to support the effective running of the organisation because disagreements and disputes are bound to happen. They need to be resolved in a comradely, fair, timely and open manner that does not consume the time of the whole party or the executive as we have limited resources. I am standing to help strengthen the work of the whole Party so we can spend our energies on taking the fight to the right people.
Left Unity is active in movements and campaigns across the left, working to create an alternative to the main political parties.
