As polls show an increasing majority of popular support for the Junior Doctors, Left Unity sends solidarity greetings to the strikers and lays the blame for the crisis firmly at the door of the government and the obstructive role played by the Health Secretary.
Left Unity Principal Speaker Felicity Dowling said:
‘The Junior Doctors represent a new generation taking up the struggle for the NHS. Some of the most hard working and most able of our young people are on strike to secure a viable future for our NHS. We mustn’t let them fight alone.
‘It’s time for everyone who cares for the NHS to follow their example, across all our communities. We all need the NHS – we cannot see it go.’
Left Unity rejects government attempts to smear the NHS, passing the buck to the NHS for the government’s own vicious cuts in mental health provision, starving the NHS of funds and denigrating it at every turn.
Left Unity calls for joint campaigns across society to defend the NHS:
‘The Junior Doctors have kindled a flame of hope for the NHS. Let’s turn those flames into beacons across the land’.
Left Unity is active in movements and campaigns across the left, working to create an alternative to the main political parties.
