Lord Mayor is wrong choice for inquiry

“The choice of the Lord Mayor of London to head the inquiry into child abuse is offensive to the survivors and victims of abuse and to all who have campaigned for justice.

“Her current role is to represent and defend the City of London, itself a bastion of male privilege. How does this qualify her for the role of challenging entrenched power structures that have protected abusers for decades?

“This is the establishment investigating the establishment, again.

“We need a tribune of the people from outside these elite circles, known for standing up to privilege, with an understanding of the lives of ordinary communities.

“Left Unity demands a viable and fearless inquiry prepared to give value and dignity to the life of every child.”
