Left wing political party Left Unity has blasted the “cosy Westminster consensus” on fracking as it emerged that all three main parties are now signed up to the government’s fracking-under-homes proposal.
Bianca Todd from Left Unity said:
“Fracking is massively unpopular, and the government’s proposals to allow fracking under people’s homes without permission are an outrage. Yet none of the three main parties are standing up against these plans.”
It comes after energy minister Michael Fallon told the UK Shale conference: “There is cross party consensus on this issue – I welcome confirmation that the Labour Party will not oppose our plans in Parliament.”
Bianca Todd from Left Unity added:
“Labour’s support for the new fracking law seems to have stayed under the radar so far. Everyone who is against the plan must let them know that supporting this cosy Westminster consensus on fracking is not acceptable.
“Fracking has not been proved safe for local people, and it will definitely do further damage to the climate. We call for a ban on fracking and investment in renewable energy instead.”
