[UPDATE 17/04/2014: Due to scheduling conflicts, the dates for ballot opening and closing have been pushed back. Please see the Deadlines section below]
Further elections for Left Unity National Council and other positions
Elections took place in the run up to the Manchester conference for the for the National Council in different stages, the Standing Orders Committee, Appeals Committee and Disputes Committee.
Those elections resulted in a full team of officers and nationally elected places (see) but Scotland and most of the English regions still have unfilled seats as listed below. This is also true for the Standing Orders Committee, the Appeals committee and the Disputes Committee.
Where some seats have already been filled as part of a constituency this means in some cases further nominations are being sought exclusively for women. This is in line with the constitution agreed at the founding conference of Left Unity in November 2013.

So nominations are now open for the following positions:
Appeals Committee : 6 places
Disputes Committee 1 place must be a woman
Standing Orders Committee 10 places

Deadlines
Nominations will close at 10am on April 17. Ballot papers will then be sent out to all members hopefully by Monday 21 April and the ballot will close at midnight on 5 May. The results will be announced a few days after.
Members requiring a postal ballot should contact elections@leftunity.org or phone 07787615652 by 10am on April 17.
To be nominated or to vote in the election you must have been a member of Left Unity by March 31. A valid nomination is one made by two members of Left Unity or a branch. Nominees must accept nominations by April 17 at 10am and submit any statement they want circulated of up to 350 words. If you are nominating someone please ask them if they will accept at the same time. Nominations should go to elections@leftunity.org and all correspondence and questions about these elections should be sent to the same address.
To complicate things a little the Disputes Committee election will take place in two stages. The conference agreed to rerun the election with the existing nominations because one nominee didn’t appear on the ballot that was sent out Since then another candidate has withdrawn because they were elected to the National Council therefore nominations will be reopened for one further position but there will be two ballot papers: one with the existing candidates (The candidates are Teresa Delaney, Joseph Healy, Stephen Miller, Shelia Mosley, Alan Story and Annie Tunnicliffe). and reopen nominations and one with any additional nominees and reopen nominations.

I am disabled but mostly mobile. I have been a Socialist all of my life and I believe Left Unity will become a major force in politics. I want to help in any capacity to get rid of the Tories, their tame Liberals and the useless Labour Party that has lost direction and treats Socialism as a profanity.
