News not boobs

For decades now, pictures of naked women have been slapped all over the third page in certain newspapers, and quite frankly, enough is enough. I believe that Left Unity should support the campaign to end page 3!

Yes, I am aware that feminism has much more important and bigger tasks to take on. But this does not mean we should let the little things slide. Of course, this is about more than just page 3 though. It’s about the education of society and its repeated objectification of women that has become acceptable everyday life.

The no more page 3 campaign has mass amounts of support with 187,247 signatures on the online petition which is constantly climbing. Many well known groups are endorsing the campaign such as the girl guides. Another unlikely supporter is Russell Brand! The campaign itself is surrounded with positive feminist activity, promoting debate and discussions both online and on the street, something Left Unity could learn from.

The idea of boobs being news worthy is an insult to women; it undermines all our achievements and validates the idea that is alright to view women as sex objects, here to please the eyes of others. Therefore I have written this short article to ask Left Unity to endorse the no more page 3 campaign and support it in any way we can.
