Left Unity congratulates Snowden on rector win

Left Unity congratulates NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden on being elected rector of Glasgow University.

Members of the Left Unity party at the university have been part of the campaign to win Snowden the post.

Bianca Todd, one of Left Unity’s principal speakers, said, “This is a great victory for Edward Snowden and the students who worked so hard to get him elected and draw more attention to the issue of secret surveillance. We are proud to have supported the campaign.”

Left Unity is the new party of the left in Britain. Founded in November 2013, it already has over 1,400 members. Speakers from the party are available for interview.

Thanks for this, but you’re underselling us – Left Unity initiated the campaign and provided the leadership – Chris & Lubna fronted it brilliantly in meetings and in the media. Finally numbers of folk got out postering & leafletting over the past three days to get the vote. This is a big result – turnout last time 3,000 votes, turnout this time 6,560 votes with Edward Snowden getting 3,124 first pref and walking it with 3,347 in the second round – a resounding victory despite the nationalists and careerists ranting about wanting a “working Rector”. Twitter apparently went crazy after the result was announced with these characters complaining about the result.
