Last night Greek musicians including Vasilis Papakonstantinou, who has worked closely with Mikis Theodorakis, Giannis Haroulis and others performed a benefit concert for the workers who are occupying the Vio.Me factory in Thessaloniki. The striking workers there had not been paid since May 2011. They have decided to restart production under workers’ control. This is an enormously important development and has been recognised as such across Greek society. Last night’s concert was sold out. People came in their thousands to show their support, many hundreds were left outside where they chanted their support for the workers at the factory. This was a cross between a concert and a political rally
Messages of support from around the world were read out during the evening. Left Unity adds its own small voice of solidarity to all those others who want to see social justice for the people of Greece. Victory to the workers at Vio.Me!
