Smash the Blacklist

Last night construction workers from Unite blocked Oxford Street in the heart of London’s West End to protest against the insidious policy of blacklisting.
Thousands of construction workers are on Blacklists in the UK and many have had their lives ruined by this secret and  shameful practice. MPs have called this a national scandal. The real scandal is thas taken so long for any action to be  taken to stop this practice. Many workers were blacklisted for raising basic health and safety issues.

No company that has used the blacklist should get any local government or national government contract. Those companies should be forced to compensate those workers whose livelihood they have destroyed. We need more actions like those last night – time to stop talking – time to act.

  1. Did this flashmob make it into the news? Nothing on the radio at all.

  2. Guy Harper says:

Not sure about the news but there was some leaflets about it left on the bar at the pub I was at in Tottenham Ct Rd last night!

  3. Pat Jourdan says:

Time for Marlon Brando and ‘On the Waterfront’ again? Or are we going even further back and entering the nineteen-thirties?

  4. Shame this wasn’t more widely known. I was on my home from my ATOS medical when I noticed someone getting off the tube with a banner but didn’t realise there was a demo until I heard off the road being in the travel news while on the bus home.

  5. Sorry – error – *heard of the road being blocked* …..it’s late!

Just learnt that tesco in Ireland made workers wear monitors which scored them on their performance . It deducted points for going to the toilet and for breaks tesco denied that though . But the point is where does it all stop ? Floggings outside the site gate hanging people in gibets otside pit heads for joining TU’s as they used to . Stop these attacks force the TU’s to defend their members reveal TU who collaboratered in blacklisting and kick em out !
Full support for Frank and blacklisted workers support group.
