Left Unity’s first candidates

Left Unity has confirmed its first local election candidates: our Wigan branch is standing in seven council seats. Left Unity Wigan has been an important part of the movement against fracking locally, and one of the candidates is a ‘Barton Moss protector’ from the anti-fracking camp there. There are also current and former workers from the Hovis factory, the site of an important victory against zero-hours contracts.
We are now in the final stages of confirming candidates in Norwich, Exeter and Barnet in north London. More details will be on the Left Unity website as soon as we have them.
Donate to the local election campaign
We’re going to be producing a large amount of materials to get the word out, both in areas where we’re standing this time and areas where we may stand in the future. This will include a special elections broadsheet, window posters (pictured on the left), candidates’ leaflets and more.

Congratulations to Norwich Left Unity. I understand LU will be standing a candidate in the May local elections. This has been achieved through liaison and consultation with Norfolk Against The Cuts, The Green Party, TUSC and others. This is the way forward to avoid electoral clashes. Also, Norwich has a core of anti-cuts Green councillors, so consultation with the Greens was vital. I wish Norwich LU well in the endless foot-slogging and door knocking which is essential for electoral advancement.
